After spending a few months learning how to build advanced circuits with an Arduino, my team of 3 sought out to build a more exciting bike lighting system. We programmed a neopixel grid which sits on the back of the bike to play various animations. On the left handle bar is a switch to activate a turn signal, and when you squeeze the rear break a switch triggers a break light. Additionally we added a fun animation that plays when the rider hits a bump or accelerates quickly.
Through this process I created all of the 16 x 16 pixel animations in After Effects, and used a script to upload them to an Arduino micro controller which is connected to the neopixel grid. I also programmed the code to activate the animations based on the various signals, and played a significant role in the overall construction. Oh, I also edited the insanely epic video above.
